Prostate cancer is one of the most common malignancies in men, and distinguishing benign conditions from clinically significant prostate cancer remains an important diagnostic challenge. Although prostate-specific antigen (PSA) measurement is widely used for the initial evaluation of patients, its limited specificity can lead to unnecessary biopsies. The ExoDx Prostate IntelliScore (EPI) is a non-invasive, liquid biopsy-based diagnostic test that assesses the risk of prostate cancer by analyzing exosomal RNA in urine samples. The test measures the expression of three genes, PCA3, ERG, and SPDEF, using RT-qPCR, and converts the results into a quantitative score through a proprietary algorithm. A lower score indicates a lower probability of clinically significant prostate cancer and may assist, together with other clinical and laboratory information, in determining the need for prostate biopsy. The test is primarily intended for men aged ≥50 years with PSA levels between 2 and 10 ng/mL. |
